Online School of
Ancient Studies & Biblical Theology

MISSION

MEMRA exists to provide academic instruction to interested non-degree-seeking students via the convenience of the online environment.

FOCUS

MEMRA offers online courses designed for the serious student. Students enroll in a course that follows a fixed calendar (usually six weeks in length). The course includes a range of weekly activities, such as discussion forums with other students and the professor, videos, podcasts, readings, and webcasts with the professor.

DISTINCTIVES

MEMRA courses are not devotional in nature. Rather, MEMRA exists to provide serious academic content. Students study the same level of content they would experience in an undergraduate level course.

MEMRA courses are distinguished in several ways:

  • The biblical text takes precedence over denominational distinctives. What the text says is more important than how a denomination defines itself.
  • Academic inquiry into the biblical text is balanced with a high view of the sacred character of the Bible.
  • Critical methods employed by scholars need not be feared, but weighed for what they contribute and how they hold up to logical assessment.
  • Students are expected to put sufficient time into coursework. The emphasis is on learning to think through content, not casual exposure.

AREAS OF STUDY

Course areas include: Biblical Theology, Ancient Religion, Ancient History, and Ancient Languages.
